How to Wear Statement Sunglasses this Spring

Statement sunglasses are a way to inject instant glamour into a spring or summer outfit, without the wearer having to turn to heels or eye makeup.

For stylist Jess Cartner-Morley, the ability to take a ‘selfie’ with your camera is a big plus when it comes to purchasing sunglasses. Sunglasses are not cheap, so it’s important you find the right style for your face. Your phone can come in handy for this, as looking in the mirror doesn’t always give you the right impression.

How to Get Away with Wearing Black in Summer

How to Get Away with Wearing Black in SummerWearing black in summer was once considered a bit of a fashion taboo. Summer should be about embracing the sun and that means light, fresh summery colours, right? Wrong.

According to The Guardian, black can be a great summer colour choice, you just have to team it with the right kind of outfit. A black jumper – no. Black jeans – no. A spaghetti strap vest – yes!

Many women feel more comfortable in black, but feel that when summer comes around they are expected to put it to the back of the wardrobe. What they may not realise is that colour can be introduced another way. A little black dress can be worn with bright, strappy heels, for example.

Black in summer is all about breezy, slinky fabric that is loose and light but not shapeless. A sundress with an exposed back would look divine, as would a structured dress that showed off a set of tanned pins.

Angelina Jolie can do it, so why not you?

Lea Michele at TCAs in Hot Pink to Thank Fans for Their Support

Lea Michele at TCAs in Hot Pink to Thank Fans for Their Support

As Lea Michele stepped onto the stage at the 2013 Teen Choice Awards on August 11, you couldn’t help but be moved knowing that exactly a year ago she had been unveiling her relationship with co-star Cory Monteith.

Hollywood Life reported that the young star looked stunning in a hot pink hoop skirt and baby pink blouse. She finished the outfit off with her “Cory” necklace. Lea is a big fan of pink, having arrived at both last year’s event and the People’s Choice Awards in the colour.

Lea was supported by cast mates as she made a moving speech about her former love, who tragically lost his life on July 13 to an alleged drug overdose.

The star spoke of Cory’s incredible talent, his handsome smile and warm heart. She thanked fans for their love and support.

Fans are applauding Michele’s decision to return to the set and make an appearance at the awards, as well as praising Glee creator Ryan Murphy for giving Lea total control on the decisions for the show and its future.

The cast is currently working on season 5 as well as a tribute to Cory, and will then take a short break to grieve and recuperate.

Wearing White, No Matter the Occasion

Wearing White, No Matter the OccasionWhite-on-white can be the perfect choice for a number of occasions, including brunch, the office or a night out.

Brunch

Brunch calls for effortless glamour, which suits a mix of casual fabrics. The aim is to appear as if you have thrown an outfit together, yet happened to walk out the door looking fabulous. Try combining high-top converse sneakers with a mini skirt and knit jumper in a pale shade.

Office

White needs to be sophisticated and practical, so think about your outfit carefully before stepping out to the office. A silk blouse with a full volume skirt can work well but just be sure that your accessories compliment each other.

Night out

White at night looks incredible when paired with a bold colour. This could be as simple as painted nails, a red lip or a bold pair of heels. The key is to have a play – try different layers of fabric and play around with colour.

Jump into the Trend That’s Not Going Anywhere: The Jumpsuit & The Playsuit

Jump into the Trend That’s Not Going Anywhere: The Jumpsuit & The Playsuit Jump into the Trend That’s Not Going Anywhere: The Jumpsuit & The Playsuit

Jumpsuits and playsuits have been around for a long time, with pilots, drivers, sportspersons and manual labourers donning the one-piece for decades. The jumpsuit first became a popular fashion choice in the 60s, stayed popular throughout the 70s and peaked during the disco era. By the 80s men had dropped the look, but women were still seen wearing the one piece for a night on the town for years. Then the trend vanished in the early 90s.

Jumpsuit comeback

We are happy to report that the jumpsuit is well and truly back, and this time it’s an even hotter look. Designers have mastered the tailoring of this all-in-one outfit and offer a range of different styles to suit everyone. Whatever you do, never confuse the jumpsuit with a pyjama style ‘onesie’, no matter how cool people say they are.

As well as the modern jumpsuit, vintage jumpsuits can offer a retro flair to any wardrobe. Both jumpsuits are considered statement pieces and are comfortable to wear.

How to wear

The all-in-one outfit is not the easiest trend to get right, but pulled off correctly you can look super sophisticated and stylish.

The key to the perfect jumpsuit is its silhouette. The fit should be comfortably tailored, yet cinched in at the waist to highlight your curves. Make sure that there is enough height in the pant to ensure no bunching or pulling.

A jumpsuit should be daring and feature bold prints or colours. Think florals or polka dots. For a fresh, summery look, opt for a bright cobalt blue strapless jumpsuit like Evangeline Lilly recently did. When darker colours like black or navy are used, the cut should be daring, such as Bella Thorne’s black playsuit worn to a recent Beyonce concert.

A jumpsuit in itself is a statement piece, so jewellery should be kept to a minimum. Team with a simple pair of heels and a clutch to finish off the look, and keep your hair simple.

Celebrities getting in on the trend

Nina Dobrev recently showed a perfect example of how this trend should be done when she arrived at the recent Young Hollywood Awards. The 24-year old Vampire Diaries star opted for a floral jumpsuit that showed just the right amount of cleavage, giving the look an edge.

The form-fitting jumpsuit featured a stylish peplum top and the colour was right on trend with bold florals. The young actress finished off her look with simple black strappy heels, a patent red leather clutch and her hair tied in a simple ponytail.

The sometimes wild Miley Cyrus looked sensational at the 2013 Maxim Hot 100 Party wearing a black and white strapless Valentino jumpsuit. The back of the jumpsuit featured an elegant oversized bow, providing that extra detail for impact.

Kristen Stewart was seen at the 2013 Met Gala in a sophisticated Bordeaux Stella McCartney embroidered jumpsuit and coiffed hair.

Jennifer Hudson made use of bold colour by opting for an emerald jumpsuit at the Project Runway Spring 2013 Fashion Show, which she teamed with a matching blazer. A gold belt and coral lips finished off the look perfectly.
